Reporting to the Executive Vice President of University Advancement, the Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Communications is the chief spokesperson for Chapman University. Provides vision, strategy, leadership and administrative oversight for marketing, communications, public/media relations, institutional website, new media, and interactive services and publications. This individual is responsible for establishing the University's brand and presence within the marketplace and is often substantially involved in representing the University and its future potential to a variety of industry audiences, including potential and existing students, donors, community neighbors, and others. The Vice President plays a key role in establishing the marketing roadmap and strategic plan. The Vice President is involved in all aspects of bringing the Chapman brand to life in every medium and communications format. This individual is a key member of the President's Senior Staff providing strategic, innovative, and collaborative public affairs and brand marketing initiatives. The Public Relations, Creative Services, Web and Interactive, and Media/Advertising departmental teams report to the Vice President. Assumes additional responsibilities as required.
Specific Job Requirements:
A minimum of 10 years combined communications, new media/web media relations experience, with at least five years of progressive senior management experience in marketing at a higher education institution or mid-sized corporation.
Working knowledge of database marketing analysis.
Experience with direct mail, email marketing and segmentation programs.
Experience with web-based communications, social media and technology.
Experience with interactive marketing experience.
Demonstrated successful leadership skills to provide short- and long-term vision and administrative oversight.
Knowledge of strategic annual planning and integrated communication and marketing concepts.
Ability to establish credibility throughout the organization and with senior staff and the board as an effective leader.
Ability to develop and execute a multi-channel annual strategic communication plan, including direct marketing for annual gifts and targeted annual campaigns, executive, board, donor and prospect communication.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Proven skilled diplomat and active listener with a commitment to consensus building and collaboration. Ability to be client focused with a goal of exceeding expectations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to establish strong, trusting relationships. Creative and strategic thinker who will develop and implement dynamic integrated communications, media, public relations and marketing plans that promote and enhance the university's reputation. High degree of professional discretion, integrity and good judgment.
A master's degree. A minimum of five years of agency experience.
